Medical Companion Service
What is a medical companion?
A medical companion is a vetted, trained, background-checked non-clinical caregiver who accompanies a client to medical appointments, procedures, or surgery — providing personal assistance, companionship, and practical support before, during, and after the appointment. They are not medical professionals and do not provide medical treatment, nursing services, or clinical care.
Can someone accompany me to a doctor's appointment?
Yes. A BrightLife caregiver can accompany you to any medical appointment, help with check-in, provide companionship, and assist with practical non-clinical needs throughout the visit.
Can your caregiver stay at the facility during my procedure?
Yes. When the facility requires or allows an accompanying support person, your BrightLife caregiver can remain on-site during the procedure according to your agreed service arrangement.
Can you help with same-day surgery or outpatient procedures?
Yes. Many facilities require a trusted person to be present for outpatient procedures and same-day surgery. A BrightLife companion can fulfill that role and support you through the entire experience — from preparation at home through safe return.
Can the caregiver help with discharge?
Yes. Your caregiver can assist with gathering belongings, provide responsible-adult support when required by the facility, help coordinate transportation, and support your transition home.
Can you coordinate transportation?
BrightLife can help coordinate transportation as part of the overall appointment-support experience. Transportation is a supporting component — the caregiver relationship and on-site support is the primary service. Transportation gets you there; a medical companion stays with you.
Can someone pick up my prescription after discharge?
Yes. Pharmacy pickup and basic post-appointment errands can be included as part of your service arrangement, subject to BrightLife's policies.
Can the caregiver stay with me after I get home?
Yes. Your caregiver can help you get safely settled at home, assist with basic non-clinical needs, provide companionship, and continue support when scheduled.
What is the difference between medical companion support and home care?
Medical companion support is specifically focused on accompanying clients through the medical appointment or procedure experience — from preparation at home through discharge and safe return. Home care typically refers to ongoing daily support at home. BrightLife provides both, and they can be combined.
About Our Caregivers
Are your caregivers background checked?
Yes. Every BrightLife caregiver undergoes a comprehensive background check, reference verification, and skills assessment before joining our team.
Is BrightLife a medical provider?
No. BrightLife Home Care provides non-clinical personal assistance and companionship support. Our caregivers are not medical professionals and do not provide medical treatment, nursing services, or clinical care.
What do your caregivers do — and not do?
Our caregivers provide personal assistance, companionship, and practical support within a non-clinical scope. They do not diagnose conditions, provide medical treatment, administer medications (unless specifically permitted within applicable scope), provide nursing services, give medical advice, or replace physicians, nurses, or emergency services.
Our Services
Can I schedule senior care and medical companion services together?
Yes. BrightLife provides both ongoing senior care and medical companion support. Many clients use both services, and we can coordinate them as part of a comprehensive care arrangement.
Do you provide disability support?
Yes. BrightLife provides respectful, non-clinical disability care designed around independence, choice, and everyday life. See our Disability Care page for details.
Do you provide post-partum support?
Yes. BrightLife's Mother's Helper service provides practical, non-clinical household support for new mothers and families during the transition after childbirth. This service does not replace a physician, nurse, lactation consultant, midwife, or other licensed healthcare professional.
